Birth initiates a time of huge adjustment for the mother and baby, both physically and psychologically.
For the mother, yoga offers a sanctuary to take time for the self, and to reconnect with who we are, as well as regaining health, strength and balance in the body and mind. It offers time for grounding when feeling stressed or disconnected, and can enhance energy levels when reserves are low.
For the baby, yoga and massage can provide relief from colic, cramps and teething discomfort, as well as relaxation to aid sleep. Additionally it offers an opportunity for interaction, enhancing the bond with the parent.
Yana Yoga offers two types of postnatal class:
- Mothers only yoga
This class is designed to provide mothers with a safe, calm space in which they can take the time to focus on the self, and work towards healing the body and balancing the mind without distraction.
- Parent and child with baby massage
This class is open to mum or dad and baby, with an equal split of time dedicated to baby and parent. With yoga and massage for baby, yoga for the parent, singing of nursery rhymes and time for relaxation, this is a varied and enjoyable class for all.
Please note: This class is not suitable for babies once they are mobile.
